Military
leader, air combat veteran of World War I and World War II. Born
in Moreland, Georgia December 26, 1897. Moved to Auburn, Alabama
in 1900. Entered military flying service in 1918. Performed early
aerial mapping of Tennessee River Valley and Mobile Harbor areas.
Flew first airmail service linking Montgomery and Mobile with
New Orleans in 1925. Led a Medium Bomb Group in every Mediterranean
campaign during World War II. Had a Transport Command in the Pacific.
Received numerous awards and commendations for accomplishments
during his distinguished military career. Retired as Brigadier
General USAF in 1953 after 36 years of activ eflying. Continued
to contribute to the advancement of air power as special consultant
to Military Science Department at Auburn University and USAF Air
University.
