Lloyd J. Probst
was born in 1939 at Rockne, Texas. After graduating from high
school, Probst began taking flying lessons and completed his first
solo flight in a Piper Sub Cub. After joining the Air Force in
1957, Probst received an appointment to the United States Air
Force Academy. Graduating in 1963, Probst completed military pilot
training and was assigned to fly Lockheed C130 aircraft. In July
1966, Probst was assigned to fly airlift missions in the Republic
of Vietnam. During his tour of duty, Probst completed 1,248 combat
missions, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and eight Air
Medals. During his military career, Probst remained an active
flight instructor at both military and civilian flying clubs.
After retiring from military service, Probst became a Federal
Aviation Administration Accident Prevention Counselor and Pilot
Examiner in the Montgomery area, positions he has maintained for
more than twenty years. In 1991, Probst was honored by the Federal
Aviation Administration as the National Flight Instructor of the
Year. Probst has amassed 20,000 hours as a military, corporate,
and airline pilot including more than 6,000 hours as a flight
instructor.
