Museum
Up Close Tour of Aircraft Halls! Grades 1-12
Fee: $4.00 per person.
Minimum Fee: $40. 1 hour;
40 students maximum.
Joint Museum and Airport Tours Now Available!
Birmingham International Airport and the Southern Museum of Flight will be offering a joint tour.

Just Plane Science Paper Planes! Grades 2-5
Investigate how an airplane flies: direction, speed and forces that act on an airplane with an up-close tour of the aircraft halls, a film, and a hands-on activity constructing a paper airplane.
Fee: $5.00 per person.
Minimum Fee: $50. 1.5 hours;
40 students maximum.

Just Plane Science Experimental Glider!
Grades 6-12
Investigate how an airplane flies: Newton’s laws of motion, the forces that act on an airplane with an up-close tour of the aircraft halls, a film, and a hands-on activity constructing and designing a glider.
Fee: $5.00 per person. Minimum Fee: $50. 1.5 hours;
40 students maximum.
Just Plane Weather! Grades 4-8
Visit our live weather station at the museum. Investigate the causes of weather and its impact on airplanes and on our environment. Find out about how hurricanes, tornadoes and wind shears are formed. Learn how meteorologists and pilots use weather instruments, clouds and frontal systems to predict weather. Pretend you are a weather anchor, construct and interpret a weather chart of the day’s weather. All students construct a paper spiral to find out how weather frontal systems work.
Fee: $5 per person
Minimum Fee: $50. 1.5 hours; 20 students maximum.

Learn to Fly Sessions!
Grades 6-12
9:30 A.M.-11:30 A.M. Piloting Basics Session: Introduction to piloting basics; investigate how an aircraft flies, Newton's laws of motion, the forces that act on an airplane, aerodynamics, aircraft control surfaces, read an aircraft chart and instruments.
11:30 A.M.-12:00 P.M. Lunch: Students bring a brown bag lunch.
12:00 P.M.-2:00 P.M. Flight Simulator Lab Session: Learn how to take off, fly a pattern, navigate, use aircraft instruments and land a plane on a computer flight simulator.
Fee: $10 per student.
Minimum Fee: $100. 4 hours;
30 students maximum.

Airplane Stories! Self-Guided Tours for
Pre-school - Grade 1
Teachers can read airplane stories to their students. The stories are printed on large flash cards and can be found in the museum aircraft halls. Make a stop at the Family Hangar where the kids can build airports or sit in a jet cockpit.
Fee: $3 per person,
Minimum Fee: $30. 1 hour.

Learn to be weather reporter, use weather maps, clouds and instruments to predict the weather, find out how pilots use these to plan safe flights, build a barometer, find out about weather emergencies, frontal systems, and visit a live weather station.
$15 per scout includes a patch; Museum members $10; 2.5 hours;
Minimum 10, Maximum 20

Junior AEROSPACE Badge!
Saturday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Design a paper plane, test fly a balsa gilder, make a beautiful kite, get in a cockpit, see a radio control helicopter in action and either meet a veteran or woman pilot.

Build a scale model aircraft, build and test fly a glider, paper copter and find out how a hot air balloon works. Complete six of your seven requirements.

Cub Scouts WEATHER Elective!
Saturday, Nov. 17 & May 17 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
(Bring an adult for every scout)
Build a weather vane and rain gauge. Learn how to read a thermometer and barometer: find how they work. Learn to identify the clouds you see in the sky; find out how a pilot uses this to predict the weather. Complete four of the six requirements.
$20 per scout includes rain gauge and weather vane materials

Boy Scout AVIATION Merit Badge!
Saturday, Oct. 13 & Jan. 12 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Learn to Fly Camps!
Tuesday - Friday, June 17 - 20, 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Tuesday - Friday, June 24 - 27, 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Introduction to piloting basics, cockpits, instruments, weather and, navigation. Campers will have a chance to get in a cockpit and fly a COMPUTER flight simulator. Camp includes a pizza party the last day of camp, a camp t-shirt, pilot's wings and a museum patch.
